Maxemarker

Guide

Set it up once – afterwards your markers land in Resolve with one click.

1 · Connect the app to your ATEM

  1. In the app go to Settings › ATEM, enter the switcher's IP address (ATEM Setup › Network, factory default 192.168.10.240) and tap Connect.
  2. The first time, iOS asks for access to the local network – please allow it.
  3. The dot at the top of the Live screen turns green and the timecode runs.

Direct LAN cable (no Wi‑Fi)

  1. Plug a USB‑C or Lightning Ethernet adapter into the iPhone/iPad and run the cable straight into the ATEM (on the HD8 ISO, any of its LAN ports).
  2. iOS Settings › Ethernet › adapter › Configure IP: Manual. Use an address in the ATEM's network but with a different last number (ATEM 192.168.10.240 → iPhone e.g. 192.168.10.50), subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
  3. In the app set Connect via to “Cable (Ethernet adapter)”. The iPhone network section shows a green check when the ATEM is reachable.

2 · Choose the exchange folder

In the app: Settings › Sync with Resolve › Folder. The folder must also be visible on your edit computer:

Edit computerFolder
MaciCloud Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or Google Drive
WindowsiCloud for Windows, OneDrive, Dropbox or Google Drive
bothNetwork share (Files app › “Connect to Server”)

The app keeps the marker file there up to date while you record.

3 · Install the Resolve script

In the app go to Settings › Resolve script for Mac and Windows and tap Save to sync folder. The app saves a Maxemarker-Resolve folder with the script, installers and your license file there. Or send it to your edit computer with Share (AirDrop, Mail).

Mac

  1. In the Maxemarker-Resolve folder, double-click Maxemarker Installer (Mac).zip.
  2. Open Maxemarker Installer and click Install. The installer is notarized by Apple and opens without a detour through System Settings.
  3. Or by hand: in Finder choose Go › Go to Folder…, enter
    ~/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Fusion/Scripts/Utility
    and drag Maxemarker.lua into it.

Windows

  1. Double-click Install (Windows).bat.
  2. If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”: More info › Run anyway.
  3. Or by hand: copy Maxemarker.lua to
    %APPDATA%\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\Scripts\Utility
(paste the path into Explorer's address bar).

Restart Resolve if needed. The script appears under Workspace › Scripts › Maxemarker.

4 · Place the markers in Resolve

  1. Open the project the ATEM recorded (.drp).
  2. Workspace › Scripts › Maxemarker.
  3. The script has already picked the matching marker file (it compares timecodes with the clips). Click Set markers.
With iCloud Drive it can take about a minute after recording stops until the file reaches your Mac. Then click Search again in the script.

Running it again is fine – existing markers are replaced, not duplicated.

Without the script (e.g. free Resolve): in the app open a recording › export as EDL. In Resolve right-click the timeline in the Media Pool › Timelines › Import › Timeline Markers from EDL…

5 · Multicam timeline

Under 3 · Multicam timeline the script builds a multicam clip from the ISO tracks plus a timeline cut exactly like the live edit. In the multicam viewer (Edit page, set the source viewer to “Multicam”) you switch any section to another camera with one click. Tick “use better footage” to use the camera originals instead of the ISO tracks (see 6). Always build the multicam from the original ATEM timeline.

6 · Swap in better footage

  1. Create a folder with one subfolder per camera: CAM 1, CAM 2 … (number = ATEM input). Copy the camera card contents into it.
  2. In the script under 2 · Replace with better footage choose that folder and click Create new timeline with better footage.

Requirements: same frame rate as the timeline and either the same timecode as the ATEM or a camera sync (below). The ATEM timeline stays unchanged.

Cameras without shared timecode: camera sync

  1. In the app open Settings › Camera sync and add the camera (number = ATEM input).
  2. Photograph timecode: hold the camera display with the running timecode inside the frame (zoom 1×–5×) and tap Use. The app remembers which ATEM timecode was running at that moment; quickly check the recognised camera timecode in the photo.
  3. Ideally take one photo at the start and one at the end of the shoot – then the script also compensates for clock drift.

The app saves the sync as Maxemarker-Kamera-Abgleich.json in the sync folder; the script uses it automatically. The camera needs continuous timecode (“Free Run” or time of day). If a small offset remains, correct a few frames under Fine adjustment.

Drones and cameras without a timecode display

  1. In camera sync add the camera, e.g. “Drone” on CAM 6, and turn on “No timecode: start by button press”.
  2. The Live screen shows the button “Drone · start recording”. Press it at the same moment you start recording on the drone – the app also places a marker.
  3. Copy the drone's files into the folder CAM 6. The script matches them to the button presses in file-name order; split files of a long recording are recognised by their continuous timecode.

7 · Apple Watch

The watch app is installed automatically on your paired watch together with the iPhone app (otherwise install it in the iPhone's Watch app under “Available Apps”). It shows your quick buttons, the timecode and the recording status.
